Originally planned as the first part of a 3xLP album, ‘Kepler 66 Hotline’ is a collection of tracks deeply inspired by 90's sci-fi infected Detroit electro, drenched in deep mellow tones, weird outer-worldly timbres and sharp drum-arrangements.

    According to its creators:

"This post-apocalyptic journey is set in 2046 A.D. far out on the Kepler 66 Planet, where The Douglas Brothers (Alchemists of Sound) have now set up their inter-dimensional sonic fortress. Due to complications on Earth and a third world war breaking out, Earth's population was forced to migrate to unknown territories. Those with pride choose to stay, while others took off to finally create their Utopias on alternate dimensions.

Peter F. Spiess is no newcomer, especially to those akin to a type of ultra minimized dance music explored between the late ’90s and the early ’00s. Peter’s one of those artists blessed with an unparalleled ability to abstract and simplify dance music down to its purest elements: sonic bare-bones, both rich and impactful.

Peter’s debut on Pluie/Noir, “Polymorphs XX”, is the spiritual successor to “Crystal Polymorphs”, the artist’s only album over the last 20 years and a bold collection of memorable electronic music cuts that achieved a low-key cult-status between diggers and DJs alike from all around the globe. Showcasing creations both old and new, "Polymorphs XX" dives further into Peter’s ultra-personal sonic cosmos in a 12 track album with music written over the last 20 years, spanning from ultra minimized glitch-techno to low-swung electro.

Bitmap artwork was digitally drawn by Peter as well, following his fascination with the digital and the weird. Coloring by Max Binski. Limited pressings.

Pluie/Noir’s close admiration for the land of the rising sun and its artists is not new. Having released two very solid EP’s from veterans Radiq and Fumiya Tanaka in the past, the imprint drives its attention to Japan once again, this time to showcase the work of the young and talented Berlin-based artist Yuzo Iwata.

Already established as a valuable and passionate organizer and DJ in Japan’s music scene, Yuzo’s ‘Kiteki EP’ is his first vinyl output after his move to Berlin, and a perfect showcase of his skills in story-telling, musical composition, and sonic wizardry. “True Story (Kyakushoku Mix)” (A1) is the EP’s melodic behemoth: spanning through all sorts of emotional states, ‘True Story’ is a piece that‘s as ‘cinematographic sci-fi’ as it is ‘early-morning club’, especially due to its very particular movement of tension and release. "Night Train" (B1) is the set piece of Yuzo’s story about locomotion: a hypnosis-inducing, constantly moving musical translation of a night-time train ride through Japan, with a dubby deep low-end that constantly reminds the listener to keep moving. ‘Ueno’ (B2) is the last track of the EP and also the name of a train station in Tokyo, which (not) coincidently is the last station from multiple regions in Japan since a long time. Here, like a chameleon, Yuzo shows his versatility as a producer capable of bending musical genres where groove and sonic engagement are key to success.

The release was visually interpreted by the Japanese painter Mamoru Kondo through a traditional and highly special technique of rock painting mixed with animal glue, translating Yuzo’s musical train into a unique graphical work.

Anestie Gomez is not a new name in the scene. His meticulous arrangements, a naïve approach to electronic and an unprecedented love for analog synthesizers have made him stand out over the last years as one of the youngest and most promising talents rising from Greece.

The four-tracker 'Short Stories for Tall People' marks his debut on Pluie/Noir and showcases his versatility both as a story-teller and a groove maker, with the perfect balance between machine rhythms and organic warmth for the upcoming seasons. A-side’s “No Regrets” (A1) is the EP’s warmest piece, with a clearly light-hearted approach to musical composition reminiscent of Mediterranean sunny days, while "Gurunext" (A2) shifts the tone entirely to a sonic palette of robotic glitches where groove is key, pleasing the micro-house aficionados craving detail and swing. The B-side has Anestie Gomez exploring a deeper organicity: 'Surmena' (B1) is a hypnosis-inducing, constantly moving composition clearly aimed at after-hours where time and space seem untraceable, and 'Supervixen' (B2) is the EP’s jazziest exploration around heavy drum programming, swing, and deep low-ends that ebb and flow with a very peculiar yet organic steadiness.

Looking back at the imprint’s catalog one would expect Pluie/Noir’s 9th release to be in the same organic tones as previous outputs, but "Pambore" is anything but predictable: Atree's debut on Pluie/Noir is a homage to drum-machines and analog synthesizers and a welcome breath of fresh air to the imprint's evergrowing music catalog.
With a true 'no bullshit’ attitude, the Stuttgarter (soon-to-be-Berliner) Oliver put together 8 dancefloor-oriented tracks that bend the boundaries between micro-house and acid-techno while always keeping things swingy and surprising, full of bleepy sounds and playful synth melodies. Oliver's music is without a doubt very light-hearted, with a endearing aura that is usually reminicent of producers living closer to the Mediterranean sea. “Pambore” is a showcase of exactly that: a hefty but light-hearted double-EP that presents eight variations of his sincopated, and ultimately funky drum programming, bouncy basslines, tumbling synth leads and functional story-telling.
This homage to machine music brings on board the Portuguese graphic wizard Nuno Patrício to visually interpret the EP, keeping with the imprint’s usual audio-visual affair. Limited Pressings.

Diogo‘s meticulous arrangements and idiosyncratic approach to electronic music have made him shine over the last years as one of the youngest and most promising talents rising from Portugal.
‘Tanto Amor’ is a 2-tracker EP of expansive excursions rich in detail, expansive low-ends, and rhythmic structure, and not only is this his solo debut on Pluie/Noir, it’s also a warm and welcome comeback for the imprint after a long hiatus period.
‘Tanto Amor’ (A) is a haunting composition of marching drums and crisp hi-hats, but its ever-mutating melodic arrangement, along with Alba’s hypnosis-inducing vocal tricks, creates a wide dynamic spectrum of sound capable of filling any type of sonic space.
The flip-side ‘Wasame’ (B) adopts a freestyle, delirium-inducing approach where wacky minimalism and repetition do all the mind-tricks. Elements communicate and move in a very liquid, organic way yet never losing the drive, giving the overall palette a slightly jazzy, improvisational tone.
The EP’s artwork also sees a debut of another Portuguese talent, Pics of You, using solely analog photography as his tool of expression, fitting to this installment of an ever-strengthening series of releases Pluie/Noir collectors were missing. Limited Pressings.

Düve — “Hargate” — Vinyl EP

    A1 "Esti" 4:29
    A2 "Hargate" 10:29
    B1 "Yek Tas" 7:29
    B2 "Sehayat" 7:25

"Düve is a very mysterious project, probably due to the intense (albeit exotic) eastern folk instrumentation that populate their sonic structures. René Audiard & Ali Çakır have been exploring a bit of it all from crunchy techno grooves to emotionally charged slow drives, and together they managed to create a very peculiar sonic balance that captivates from the moment it passes our ears.

Düve’s “Hargate” is a four-part voyage through the intricate musical roots, complex poli-rhythms and warm musicality of the eastern mediterranean lands. ’Esti’ (A1) starts the EP in pure instrumental glory. Played by Adam Birson, the melody from the Oud is loud, ethereal and emotionally charged, topped with sparkles of modulated synth patterns and pulsing noises for full meditative effect. The EP’s title track ‘Hargate’ (A2) is soaked in a sort of nostalgia for sun-bathed Turkish soils, but under it there’s an ever-moving train of remarkable rhythmic endulgence and a very human sense of groove. A tour-de-force in balance between musicality and arrangement that stays with you like fata morgana.

The flip-side goes deeper and darker in ambience. While ‘Yek Tas’ (B1) is a 4-by-4 hichhicker’s guide through underground Istanbul and built around the tension and release of drum-echoes and reverberized pads, “Sehayat” (B2) brings back the sound (and emotion) of Ali’s darbuka/santur and Soren’s complex drum arrangements for a slow, dreamy drive.

This EP was visually interpreted by Juli Jah in a hand-made artistic depiction of Istanbul, extraordinarily fitting to this installment of an ever strengthening series of releases Pluie/Noir collectors grew accustomed to. Limited Pressing."

"Japan: the land of the rising sun and one of the worlds biggest havens for creative, forward-thinking musical freedom. Masters of a infinite number of stripped down, funk infused brands of electronic music, the japanese crews of music makers are usually teams of noble perfectionists.

Consistently shining a bright guiding light on the japanese scene, Radiq (aka Yoshihiro Hanno) remains one of Japans best exports and the reflection of what it means to be a true musician while managing his own japan-talent-only imprint Op.Disc with wit and will.

“Rhapsody” adds to the chameleon’s release catalog a 4-tracker of deep musicality, expansive 4x4 examinations and textured realms that ebb and flow between dance-focused sonatas and the kaleidoscopic intimate travels, and ultimately begging a listen all the way through. The title track ‘Rhapsody’ (A) is Yoshihiro‘s signature exploration of humanized rhyrhms, crisp claps and deep low-ends that ebb and flow with a very peculiar organic steadiness. “Circulatory Breathes” (B) uses micro-house patterns as starting point to build something more intricate where robotic movements remain constantly intertwined with amoebic perc-samples, vocal snippets, groove swings and jazzy synths. Clocking at 14 minutes, the dreamy and deeply absorbing “Antigone” (C) is the EP’s longest work, and a true hypnotic anthem that works like a musical vortex. Radiq’s artistic indulgence culminates with “Sad Strings” (D), the EP’s jazziest exploration around heavy drum programming and dramatic mood shifts.

The double EP was visually interpreted by Max Binski in a heavily textured acrylic painting, giving this release the visual perk Pluie/Noir collectors grew accustomed to. Limited Pressings."

Fumiya Tanaka — “Beautiful Town” — 12" Vinyl

    A1 "Abacus Avenue" 11:02
    B1 "Himegami Marathon" 10:52

"Last year’s album “Couldn’t See Too Clear For Edges” by The Marx Trukker stood proud as the Pluie/Noir’s first Artist album. Despite being the imprint’s one-and-only release in 2014, it was without a doubt it’s most introspective and musically refined output to date.

Pluie/Noir’s curatorial decisions seem to consistently circle around a vast array of musical experimentation with command of a very personal (albeit peculiar) vision of futuristic dance music. There’s only a few number of ever-changing, self-upgrading chameleons in the music scene who seem to constantly give their best to stay updated, or even ahead of their own time. Fumiya Tanaka is one of the world’s best examples of this morphing behavior. Not only is he the Japanese reference to skillful dj’ing with decades of fine music making and ownership of the first independent record music label in Japan (Torema), he’s also one of the world’s finest heroes of techno music. He has succeeded in keeping us engaged since the 90’s, showing us all his skills from mental, fast-paced techno to his nowadays staggeringly minimalistic approach to dance music.

Fumiya Tanaka’s double-tracker “Beautiful Town” was fully inspired by it’s cover artwork: a set of carefully selected old pictures with a layer of masterful signature paintings by Romanian artist and fine-arts student Bonjour Bonsoir. A-side’s “Abacus Avenue” is the EP’s most dense and eerie side. An addictive piece that utterly succeeds in sucking you right in like a vortex would. The locomotive bassline serves it’s purpose of movement in a strong loopy groove, while the pads and poltergeist'y sounds reformat our heads with an inability for space-time tracking. The otherside of this town, “Himegami Marathon”, is another mysteriously intricate work. It’s a microcosm of grooves, sinister details and voices locked in a tight groove built on a single bass stab and a flowing, never-ending set of wet claps. A piano kicks in at key points, alongside percussive elements, reminding us that this town is alive. As standard for Pluie/Noir, fully colored artwork cover and limited pressing."

C2 "The Bourbon Sailor Poem" 1:21
    C3 "Minor Belongings" 6:05
    D1 "Blaue Drift" 14:48

"Having delivered two outstanding EPs and a landmark triple compilation, Portugal’s Pluie/Noir now returns with its first full-length album.

Assigned with the enviable task is enigmatic German producer The Marx Trukker, who has thus far kept us on our toes with a string of high-quality EPs on a handful of respected independent imprints. With a natural affinity for experimental soundscapes that challenge dancefloors, Pluie/Noir offers the perfect platform for him to really express himself.

As much a palette of textures as it is a dance-focused collection of tracks, Couldn't See Too Clear For Edges is a kaleidoscopic and utterly transfixing listen all the way through. The very first track, "Alongside ashortside" (A1) is infused with the sort of jazzy, impulsive flavours that are part of the album – and the label’s – DNA.

But the tempos ebb and flow, at times withdrawing all intensity (“The Gin Bay Hoss Ballad” (A2)), before cascading into tightly compressed microhouse rhythms (“A Kind Shaped Mind” (A3)) and other more expansive 4x4 examinations: “Couldn’t see too clear for edges (Two Movements)” (B1); “As Rivers Stand” (C1).

Regardless of the occasionally dramatic shifts, the album never once loses its focus. “Minor Belongings” (C3) is arguably the album’s finest creation in terms of a true artistic indulgence. Dreamy and deeply absorbing, it feeds into the album’s powerful finale, “Blaue Drift” (D1), which is one of the more aggressive works on show here.

As we’ve come to expect, Pluie/Noir again challenges what can be achieved within the parameters of dance music by empowering its carefully selected repertoire of artists. As standard, the album will come as a limited pressing, this time around of transparent green vinyl, with a beautiful hand-drawn black and white artwork cover, ensuring this is as collectible as it is listenable."

    Press Release:

In what was a definitive first year for the imprint, with two solid EPs from Petre Inspirescu and Vlad Caia, Pluie/Noir also endorsed numerous acclaimed Podcasts and served as the platform for various artistic endeavors embraced not only by their own artists but also by the world. To commemorate this achievement, and in a respectful manner to their long time collaborators, the imprint is now releasing a 12 track compilation spread across three 12”s showcasing the various sounds that personify the imprint and give their artists a well deserved voice.
The narrative to the compilation reflects the minimalistic musical template that is so dear to Pluie/Noir, where simple and complex structures meet along the way in the attempt of creating something that can last in time. Each track is a concise exploration of house music’s skeleton, leaving nothing to waste, but never feeling in slightest bit sterile. It’s surprising and unpredictable, but in an organized, artistic manner.
Three_Angle’s ‘Hor-Ma’ (A1) progresses subtly, shaped by soft bumps and clicks. It’s welcoming, cleverly paving the way for the rest the compilation to interact. The now familiar Radiq follows with a typically eccentric addition, ‘Goodbye South Goodbye’ (A2). Characterised by its splintered hybridization microhouse and ambient techno, it’s certainly a head turner. Pluie/Noir founder Cleymoore contributes with ‘Starpauseflash’, a sleek and delicate number that uses looped keys and syncopated percussion to create something thought provoking. ‘New Way’ by Ztrl (B2) follows in this vein, the funky, tripped-out pattering of percussion and dreamy keynotes are spread out across a remarkably stripped-back rhythmic blueprint. Vlad Caia’s ‘Subject 238’ (C1) represents the taste of Romania that has been so inspirational to Pluie/Noir. It’s simple, clean and devastatingly effective. Diogo’s delightfully named ‘Insecuriosity’ (C1) is an impudent tapestry of sounds, rich with idiosyncratic sampling and impulsivity, reminiscent of early micro-house. This evocation is carried over to Dr. Nojoke’s alluring ‘Awrani’ (D1), which again exposes its very delicate compositional layers by draining everything from its low-end. It’s a divine afterhours groove that ripples and shakes in all the right places. French-born & based Seuil changes gear with ‘Prelude’ (D2), which draws from the same diverse sonic palate as those before him on the compilation but works from a noticeably more solid 4/4 foundation. Albert Schwartz’s ‘11aa99’ (E1) introduces the compi- lation’s first use of vocals - the deep, soulful American lyrics work alchemically with the shuffling house beat. ‘An Apple a Day’ by Andres Marcos (E2) is another percussive session, but the experimental Pluie/Noir touches keep the piece alive. The penultimate ‘White Steps’ by Levat (F1) is a gorgeous slice of microhouse, lean and groovy, the vocal slivers adding a warm feeling to the mix, before the compilation closes with S.A.M’s ‘You’re Gonna Be Okay’ (F2), another outing of enigmatic, stripped-back house.
Presented in gatefold format - once again designed by man-of-the-house Max Binski, and painted in collaboration with Ayane - this highly collectable release reflects on a successful first year for Pluie/Noir while also signifying a very promising future. A canon of DJ delights on one hand, it’s also wonderfully applicable in the home setting, ensuring its practical longevity and status as a musical treasure for a long time to come.

  • [PNR002] Vlad Caia - Swan Lake
    Record/Vinyl

Pluie/Noir is finally back with a two-track EP from Vlad Caia.
Swan Lake shows with finesse his staggering skills to craft cinematographic atmospheres in danceable patterns, bending musical styles and constantly reminding us that club music can be so much more. Both sides share the same classical-inspired background while still being quite different in mood and lightness. Striking at 14 minutes each, the progression on these tracks remain sophisticated and visionary, messing with your head and heart in unexpected ways.
'Swan Lake' is a delicate yet striking piece, with a precise yet unusual drum-programming and intelligent classical-music sampling. The flip-side 'Eternal Sunshine' is a darker toned track, with slight-flashes of acid in it's core bass-line and ever-lifting tense chords that unexpectedly rumble between the intense atmosphere and lift both your body and soul.

  • [PNR001] Petre Inspirescu - Un Livret de Duminica
    Record/Vinyl

Lisbon-based collective Pluie/Noir has been mixing the worlds of music and graphic art through a bi-monthly podcast series of music and artwork interpretations in triptychs, featuring artists from all over the world. Their debut as a vinyl-only imprint came as the most logic step on the map.
Signed by Romanian tour-de-force Petre Inspirescu, this EP delivers two quite distinct yet immersive moments of intricate delicacy and incredible production forte.
A-side “Un Livret de Duminica” strikes somehow familiar to his musical adventures as π Ensemble (out on his own imprint Yojik-Concon), and re-imagines it in a different yet dreamy setting where classic music once again bends with the finest micro-house grooves. The flip-side “Synth Society” draws the listener away from the skyline and lands him inside a giant modular system. Here the hooks are on the addicting bassline and the unsettling sense of room space and frequency-depth of analog sounds, proving that Petre is without a doubt one of the most intelligent and provocative music writters/producers around.

Definitely a great start for the portuguese imprint, and a mere glimpse of what's coming next.

  • [PNEM02] Volkan Akın 'Sinister'
    Record/Vinyl

    Volkan Akın — “Sinister” — 10" Vinyl

    A1 "Sinister" 5:51
    B1 "Atest" 6:53

"After almost a year of thoughtful insight, multiple preparations, and organizational rebooting, Pluie/Noir is looking at a bright new year with several side-projects at hand and a fresh set of steady releases. Experimental Media is one of those side-projects; A new home for free-styled, intimate works for well established or underrated, unknown artists. The first release of Experimental Media was a double-cassette compilation that joined 20 artists on a musical sandbox with a bit of everything, and a story for everyone.
Volkan Akın is a fresh name in the scene that already buzzed some radars worldwide and succeeded in impressing and released his music in well-established imprints like Sammy Dee’s Ultrastrech where he had his brilliant debut with a Villalobos remix. With “Sinister” he skims away from his usual stripped-down minimalistic grooves and presents us two tracks of lush, intimate works of deep textures, analog machine love-making noises and intricate drum arrangements with very personal tones. And while the A side “Sinister” keeps us on edge with a virtually consistent momentum of suspense and a very conveniently sinister mood, the flipside “Atest” takes us on a ride between the high skies and the deep seas, on a seamlessly neverending loop of peaceful pads and very addicting dreamy tones.
This very special limited release comes in an unusual but deliciously collectible 10” vinyl with a remarkable and equally sinister painting by New York-based artist Emily Marchesiello, art director and co-Founder of the Galerie Project. She specializes in fantasy animal portraiture art, via ink, watercolor, and oil paint."

  • [PNEM03] Hypnobeat 'Les Siestes Électroniques'
    Record/Vinyl

Hypnobeat — “Les Siestes Électroniques” — 10" Vinyl EP

    A. "Continuum Spatiotemporel Analogique" 6:01
    B. "La Sieste Électropicale" 7:27

"James Dean Brown is no new comer. More than 30 years ago his live experiments with Pietro Insipido on drum machine setups were undoubtedly in the front-line of sonic innovation. Before techno was even a thing, Hypnobeat was already more techno than most of nowadays outputs, specially after JDB’s encounter with Victor Sol and Tobias Freund in 1984 when the project became a proper, fully electronic outfit. In 1995, Hypnobeat evolved to Narcotic Syntax, a band he boosted together with Yapacc in 2003, with releases on Perlon, WIR and Prospector.

Now, after joining forces with Helena Hauff, Hypnobeat is back and its essence remains entirely preserved, along with its wild, free-styled approach to hypnosurfing drum arrangements. This symbiotic relationship between JDB and Hauff culminated in multiple live performances were the connection is crystal clear in both soul and native response to analog idiosyncrasy. Hypnobeat’s performances are completely based on improvisation, exhausting the power of an untamed Roland horde which is unique on stage: 1 x TR-707 + 3 x TR-808 + 2x TB-303 + an array of effects, resulting in this sonic alchemy of provocative percussion, voodoo passion, tribal ecstasy, hypnodelic temptation, psycho-exotic magic, universal resonance, and a quantum of danger under a crypto-bohemian approach.

‘Les Siestes Électroniques’ is, as the name implies, a unique recording taken directly from their performance at Les Siestes Électroniques festival in Toulouse, France, back in 2014. These two cuts of sonic witchcraft stand as a direct look through the looking glass of what the Hypnobeat live improvisation world truly is. “Continuum Spatiotemporel Analogique” (A) throws you to the middle of a psychosis enducing, slightly chaotic, drumming-voodoo galaxy where the full potential of the Roland drum-machines is explored and contemplated. The flip-side, “La Sieste Électropicale” (B) continues the same story, but further explores this menacing beat-construction until it culminates into an eerie soundscape of ghostly reverbs, achieved with a precise and masterful manipulation of effects.

This release, just like the one before, comes recorded in a highly limited 10” vinyl, presented in a fully-colored digital collage by portuguese artist Ayane. Limited Pressing"
